So now I get it...I finally get why my mom threw my bro and I out of the kitchen so many times growing up. It was all realized tonight as I successfully hosted my first holiday dinner!
Of course, not listening to my mother, I did NOT get a turkey ahead of time and when I went to Wegmans on Friday, surprisingly enough - they were sold out. Weird, I know..the day after Thanksgiving. I was not to fret but merely changed up the menu and bought a big ole' piece of ham. We decided to do our Bair dinner tonight and I was in charge.
It went great! I even found a delicious recipe for sweet potatoes and it was so good. Anyway, my poor mom kept trying and trying to help but I kept kicking her out. There is pride to be taken in knowing you did it yourself, based on your own experience and learning from your experience. Now, I am not one to be stubborn, I will ask mom for help when I need it. But there we were gathered around the dinner table with an amazing meal waiting for us and I did it! I'm just so proud. It makes me really appreciate all my mom went through to make so many perfect meals through the years...and the years to come ;) Thanks everyone for a great Thanksgiving...the only thing missing was the Albaughs - we miss you guys and love you!! P.S. those curtains look crappy as a background!
Let's sit and share a spell. Life travels fast and has us moving fast right along with it...

A Day Without Turkey...

Meg,
I'm so proud of you.Great job. Cooking is a job in i'ts self. My oven isn't working right so I cooked my pies over my neighbors house on wednesday. When I went to cook my turkey here on Thanksgiving, I had it in for about an hour and the poor thing started to burn on the top. I hate electric ovens, so again I took my turkey to my neighbors house. They were away.for the holiday and they said if I needed to use the oven it would be ok.So needless to say we had to cook everything over there. The other neighbors must of thought we were crazy because we were all running back and forth bringing the food over. We should of eaten there. But everything was great. Except for the fact that we were not with you guys.
We love and miss you all
Aunt Flossie
DB..way to bring out Rudy!!! I love that you went to the neighbors house to cook. That is a very Floie thing to do...running back and forth making the boys carry stuffing and turkey from one house to another! I love it! We miss you guys too and LOVE YOU@
